Re: Retro Gamer - Issue 204

Just to even things up,I think the cover looks fantastic. But yeah I agree the content is far more important :)

Re: Retro Gamer - Issue 203

Having stated earlier in this thread that was disappointed there was another Mario article, I have since read it and enjoyed it a lot. Just need to remind myself that I should always read the things before commenting on them! One niggle in this issue though. The Marble Madness article starts out by ...

Re: Retro Gamer - Issue 203

More Mario articles? Is there anything else to tell? Issues with Mario, Zelda, Sonic and the sorts on the cover are the ones that make me save my money, unless there is an article I really want to read. I feel a bit like this, but I'm sure there's a ton of people that think that when there's "anoth...

I really enjoyed the Spectrum Next article.

Personally I much preferred Gamesworld to Gamesmaster, but I seem to be in the minority here!
Being on Sky (which I and many other people probably didn't have back then) probably skews those figures to be honest. I had no idea who Big Boy Barry was even though I've been a gamer since the late 70s.

Re: Retro Gamer - Issue 201

Another crappy gift I didn't want, another pound I had to pay to read an increasingly threadbare magazine. And more paid for advertising booklets. 100 issues ago things were a lot better Threadbare? I must be reading a different magazine, tons of articles in this issue. Or is it that none of them i...

Re: JSW guided tour (issue 201)

Thanks for the kind words though I also feel a right t***. I stupidly thought that first comment was saying I'd done a good job as 'the author'. I felt all warm inside at receiving unsolicited praise. But of course he actually meant Matthew Smith. I am duly chastised. Vanity, vanity, all is vanity....

Re: JSW guided tour (issue 201)

Yeah, what others have said, loved it. It was great way to put together the thinking behind all the oddities of such a seminal title of the era. In all honestly I don't think it's that great a "game" (Manic Miner has more replayability to me), but it's impact at the time and the proceeding years sin...

I got one but I do also subscribe to Edge as well. So who knows.

Re: Retro Gamer - Issue 201

Love the cover, reminds me of Edge magazine. Very simple but very effective.

Looks like a great issue for me. Just finished the JSW room tour and that’s a great read. I’d totally forgotten that there were meant to be 4 more rooms!

255 is the maximum an 8-bit address can hold. Which Nick got...
No, I know that, but you can have all bits set to zero, so that gives you 256 different values. Anyway, either way, it's a great idea :)

I joked with Nick on Twitter about making issue 255 an 8-bit special...
Brilliant, although wouldn't it be Issue 256? Unless there was an Issue 0 I'm not aware of :)

Re: Retro Gamer - Issue 200

The comments by Ely on interviewing Matt Smith about a difficult time in his life are fair, though. As you can perhaps detect in the opening of that piece, I am honest at how uncomfortable I felt at times. I have known Matt since 2004 and been up to see him in Liverpool 7 times since then, sometime...

Re: Retro Gamer - Issue 200

I've finished this issue now and I read every single article which I don't often do. Even the World of Warcraft article was interesting even though that's not a game I've ever played or even will frankly.

Great job guys. Looking forward to many more issues in the future.

Re: From The Forum Issue 201

Just to add to my post above, why Nintendo haven't developed a WarioWare game for iOS/Android I'll never know. The simple nature of it and the touch screen interface would seem perfect for it.
