Has to be Turbo for me. The lack of moves/supers etc actaully makes it the most instinctive of them all to me.

Third Strike is rapidly becoming a favorite though.

Off the top of my head: Super Mario World (SNES) - so many times I've lost count, and still love it to this day. F-Zero (SNES) - cleared every cup on Master difficulty. Deus Ex 1 & 2 (PC/Xbox) - just so many decisions to make in both games it would have been a crime not to play through them both mor...

No, I'm sure I read that R-Types was completely re-programmed. Can't say for sure as I have no proof, but I'm sure it was.

The first Silent Hill. Probably the most tense game I've ever played.

Resi 4 - particularily the village section.

Vice City - does atmosphere to perfection.

First machine I ever played on, and first game I can remember playing full stop was Lock 'n' Cashe on Intellivision.

And on my own first machine, Speccy 48k+, 3D Haunted Hedges.

PC Engine, Spectrum and Master System version are all top quality.

Amiga and C64 changed the core gameplay too much for my liking.

Re:

they would have to keep it 2D but include an even wider range of moves. The backgrounds could be a digitised real city, while the characters could also be fully realised humans. :) Mark[/b] No, no, NO. No digitisation, no 'real' graphics. SF III style artwork with thousands of frames of hand-drawn ...

Re:

[quote="revgiblet"]Resident Evil 4 also did something for me. I loved the original Resident Evil but was slightly disappointed with the others following that. I can't put my finger on it, but RE4 seems to be one of those games that mainlines 'Gameplay' straight into my system. I think that, despite ...

Re:

I'd like to climb my very high horse and say that retro has nothing to do about it: A good game is a good game no matter what. Y'know, I was gonna say the same thing, then realised that it's not strictly true. When I play Out Run, I-Ball 2, Space Harrier, Impossible Mission and many others, yes I'm...

Spectrum: R-Type - I mean, holy censored. By far the most accurate conversin of the game to a (UK) home computer (including the Amiga version), and the graphics were utterly stunning. Manic Miner - Just has a timeless, very British, look to it. Gaming lost a bit of soul when graphics like these wen...

Jetpac
Manic Miner
Tranz-Am
Zzoom

My version came in a standard single-cassette size box, with no alternate inlay and instructions on a little b&w leaflet inside - never even seen that one above before. Was thr original release as well, still had the full price tag from W.H. Smiths on it.

I'd be more convinced of an Advance version, the GBA and PS1 seem to have played host to quite a few sly retro conversions.

Re:

Cliffhanger-C64-Now there was a game. As Cliff or his brother Coat(I kid u not)Hanger, use the Acme equipment to squash your enemy El Bandito!! If this was a game begging to be a RoadRunner licence this was it. Very basic graphics, control not all that precise, but it kept me glued to the screen fo...
