I never heard back from anyone. But I imagine it's always been nothing more than a trademark grab, and one done in bad faith.

Wanted: Retro Vol. 7

Apparently, I managed to entirely miss Retro Vol. 7. If you've got a copy in decent condition you want to offload, let me know.

Re: Retro Gamer - Issue 135

The Defender feature I felt was an odd one. Well written and interesting, but didn't live up to its title. Called Defender a Legacy it was essentially an article about Defender but not much else. The title made me think it would be more about games that followed Defender, but that was relegated to a...

Re: iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch game recommendations

Year Walk is utterly fantastic — a bold, imaginative and daring attempt to do something different. Really atmospheric, too, with some genuinely scary moments. If you like that, also consider Device 6, Simogo's follow-up, which further pushes the notion of interactive narrative and identity within vi...

Re: iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch game recommendations

neither ION or Apple have been very helpful to this day. Ha! Funny how a manufacturer of essentially obsolete hardware (due to MiFi) and the company that actually banned the named apps wouldn't be helpful about this issue! On iOS, I do hope everyone's gone out and bought Mr. Particle-Man , which ps...

Re: iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch game recommendations

Do you have a back-up somewhere, or the apps on another device? If so, you can install from iTunes (former) or send your apps to your Mac/PC and then sync them with the new device (latter). I always through you could get your previous purchases from iCloud, even if they've been deleted from the App ...

Re: Imagine Publishing now own the rights to Crash & Zzap!64

I just don't see how that would be in any way commercially viable. Things like the bookazines make money because they are reprint and therefore cost very little money to get on the shelves. Creating an original-content Zzap!64 or Crash would be a massive risk as a separate, standalone product. (My r...

Re: Imagine Publishing now own the rights to Crash & Zzap!64

What would be really cool would be if Imagine made new issues of Crash and Zzap with new content. I was thinking they could get all the existing writers and freelancers they have to write reviews of their favourite games, bung in a few features and publish like a real issue 8) Which they'd have to ...

Re: Imagine Publishing now own the rights to Crash & Zzap!64

I suppose there would be some mileage in one-off tribute,or 'best of'' magazines - you only have to look on the Speccy and C64 (and now Amiga) books that have been massively overfunded on Kickstarter (and of course RG itself) to see that there are people willing to pay good money for retro done pro...

Re: Imagine Publishing now own the rights to Crash & Zzap!64

Existing 'tribute' logos aren't the same as using the real thing, and as for terms, we have no idea of any agreements that have been in place, nor how the relationships were or indeed are. It's pretty clear things have at least been cordial between Imagine and the ex-Newsfield guys, given the amount...

Re: Imagine Publishing now own the rights to Crash & Zzap!64

I think the point is that Future is still a going concern, whereas Newsfield is not. That said, if Imagine wanted to buy some Future IP, now would be the time, given the firesale that's going on there. As for logos and such-like, there really needs to be a conversation, although I would have imagine...

Re: Imagine Publishing now own the rights to Crash & Zzap!64

Amstrad Action was a Future magazine. Amtix was the Newsfield mag, and, like Crash, is complicated in that the brand was offloaded to a competitor rather than staying with the original company.

Re: Imagine Publishing now own the rights to Crash & Zzap!64

Possibly. In fact, from the aforementioned threads, that increasingly looks like the case. Seems odd to have not consulted with Roger and Oli, given that without the logos and such, the value of the names alone isn't very high.

Re: Imagine Publishing now own the rights to Crash & Zzap!64

Hmmmm - very interesting. Even more interesting if you follow the threads on Facebook, given that the likes of Roger and Oli only found out about this today from me mentioning the tweet. They don't seem especially thrilled. And from what I already knew about the situation and what was further confi...

Re: For the mag: budget games

BMX Simulator was also a disappointment (at least on the C64) in single-player the second you figured out the entire thing was pre-programmed (i.e. the computer player had no AI and always followed the exact same route). It was still fun in multiplayer, mind.
