Re: Discuss Time! Issue 140 Retro Bargains

I traded a jumping spider toy that I bought from my work at the time for an Atari ST with colour monitor. I later sold it to a friend who wanted it to run a MIDI setup for a token payment that still ended up turning me a profit.

Re: sexism?

Some games are sexist, yes. Just as some film, television, books, magazines and newspapers are. Our media reflects the society we live in. Here in the West, there has only been a widespread movement towards gender equality for about 50 years or so. Of course we have many aspects of sexism in our cul...

Re: Worst game bundled with a console/computer/whatever

Im sure i got Days Of Thunder with my Amiga? Its the slowest driving game i have ever played, boarder line unplayable. Nearly made me fire my Atari 65xe straight back up and pack my box fresh 16bit machine away! Days of Thunder on the Amiga was truly dire. Without a doubt the worst commercial game ...

Re: From The Forum Issue 140

It was the only proper mascot for the Amiga. Consoles had Mario and Sonic; we had a red and white chequered ball until Lemmings came along. After that there were Lemmings mouse pointers, Lemmings animations, Lemmings of all sorts to have and enjoy on your Amiga. I must admit to being a bit disappoin...

Re: From The Forum issue 139 - Your favourite failure

I've always been a fan of the NGage, I wish I still had mine as it was a great 8bit emulation device back then. Also the ports of Tomb Raider and Tony Hawk were great! It was a shame you had to hold it in a taco fashion when taking calls  I still enjoy my N-Gage. At the time it was ...

Re: Discuss Time! Issue 139

Handhelds were a bit of a slow burn for me. I had little interest in them before the GBA, and even then it was mainly due to the large quantity of homebrew available for it. Once that started, however, I have found that more and more of my gaming time is spent on handhelds. First there were PDA game...

Automata! I was just thinking the other day about posting something in the Q+A forum requesting some coverage of them, and here it is! It's like magic. Made my day.

Re: N-gage - games of probable portable goodness?

Sonic is awful on it! :( I used to enjoy playing Monkey ball and of course there's the Picodrive Megadrive emulator. http://www.allaboutsymbian.com/forum/showthread.php?t=23356 & fairly decent Gameboy Colour & Sepctrum emulators too (their names escape me) Vboy is an excellent Gameboy Colour emulat...

Those games look fekkin awful though!
Grand Prix Manager doesn't look so bad to me. Nowhere near as interesting personally as Football Manager or Software Star, but enough to intrigue me.

The rest all look to be instantly forgettable.

Rise of the Triad for me. Loads of levels including a very generous shareware version, completely absurd over the top rockets, fast action, and plenty of unusual bonuses to earn. This includes my favourite, a special note if you can kill yourself with your own weapon. Quite clever it is too once you...

Re: Your fave 5th gen console

3DO for me. I was fortunate to find one used for a relative pittance right at the end of its life and, as it was near the end, found a good selection of games on the cheap as well. The technology was still recent enough, and certainly new enough for me, to be absolutely breathtaking. I bought and pl...

The ZX80 still looks great. I'm also quite fond of the JVC Wondermega as there's something quite visually appealing about the elongated shape and the curve of the CD unit coming out the front. http://www.retroreviewproject.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/06/wondermega.jpg Also, while looking around I sa...

Re: Games companies that managed to recover from failed cons

One flop I remember was Nokia's venture into the video game market with the N-gage. It looked the part and was convenient as it still functioned as a mobile phone. The problems were the price (twice as much as the GBA plus phone contract/credit) meaning relatively poor sales, and the limited select...
