Re: What game have you COMPLETED this week

Sam & Max Season One, despite having had it installed on my PC for well over a year. Much as I love Sam & Max, I guess I don't have enough patience for adventure games.. ended up using a walkthrough to get it over with :( I have the other two seasons though, so I'll give them a chance.

Re: What game have you COMPLETED this week

It's been a while since I've felt so accomplished beating a game - Actraiser for SNES to be specific. The boss rush at the end is brutal, at least for someone who doesn't normally memorise enemy patterns and usually bails out instead. I think my gaming skills leveled up :)

Re: The Wii Collecting Thread!

I stumbled across a sealed New Super Mario Bros Wii in one of the local charity shops, for the princely sum of two pounds :) I think my red t-shirt brought me luck with regard to similarly-coloured gaming items. *waits patiently for a Virtual Boy to spontaneously appear on his doorstep*

Re: Free making of R-Type book

This was an enjoyable read and I whizzed right through it, even if the technical stuff whooshed over my head in places (though admittedly mostly where he warned it might!). Even better with a longplay of the game running on my other monitor so I could see his programming tricks in action. Makes me w...

Re: Looking to build a database of retro game stores

Just found out that Gamelynx in Glasgow is shutting down in a few weeks and moving to online only. :( Gutted as there is such a shortage of retro gaming outlets up here. Anyway, they posted on facebook that they have 50% off games sale until the shop closes. I went in today - 50% off of selected ga...

Re: Games you rave about but can't be bothered to play.

Agreed about some games being too much of a chore to play through again, no matter how much you love them. I'd put the Paper Mario games in that category, along with Secret of Mana and most of the Zelda games post-Ocarina of Time.

Re: What game have you COMPLETED this week

Kid Icarus (GB) - fun! And not too difficult to get through once you've learned enemy and boss patterns. Might go back for a second playthrough, because apparently I didn't do well enough to earn some late-game powerups. Red Faction: Guerilla (PC) - my first time playing a Red Faction game, the dest...

Re: what retro game are you currently playing ?

Close to finishing Kid Icarus : Of Myths and Monsters (GB) on the 3DS Virtual Console. I'd never gotten very far in the NES original, so I was taking a risk with this, but I've been pleasantly surprised. It's quirky, has some nice difficulty spikes that can be overcome without much frustration, and ...

Re: Lamenting the death of the import scene.

I used to buy import SNES games in the 90s, and got the Freeloader so I could play Animal Crossing back when it's EU release looked unlikely, but it wasn't until the GBA and DS that I started doing it often. All those games I wouldn't be able to legally play without importing - Rocket Slime, the Oue...

Re: What game have you COMPLETED this week

Stormed through Mario 3D Land (3DS) - the 3D is just gorgeous and the gameplay is pure Nintendo bliss, for the most part, but something feels off about the jumping, like it's terribly difficult to gauge where you're going to end up. Donut lifts are especially hellish. Also I really miss instant back...

Re: Indie Royal June Bug....

Got to add to the Escape Goat love! The graphics remind me of an Amiga PD game, in a good way, the music reminds me of GBA/DS-era Castlevania in places. I went in expecting to play a few levels and then lose interest or come up against the sort of fiendish block-pushing puzzles that I dislike, but a...

-- TAKEN! -- Who's up for an 8mb Dreamcast memory card? http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z447/pippity/DSCF1152.jpg eBay in all their infinite wisdom decided it was a backup device, and now I've sold my Dreamcast it's been kicking around looking forlorn and lonely.
