I'm just glad there is such a thing as international subscriptions. Although Retro Gamer is available in quite a few stores here in Holland, none are exactly close by. I think 70 pounds is a pretty reasonable price for the convenience, even if the cost of the subscription is pretty much the same as ...

Only thing is, if you use a proper VGA box, it can be tricky (or impossible) to get games to boot in VGA mode when you use the Utopia disc.

You can't really stop the process: the yellowing is caused by chemicals in the plastic when exposed to air and/or light.

Here's a nice article on just this topic.

The hum is normal. All vectrexes do this, some more than others. The picture isn't entirely stable on them as well. Don't turn up the brightness too high.

Having enjoyed the GP32, I preordered the GP2x as soon as it was announced, but the terrible joystick kept me from using it more than a few times. Also, those first models had their share of manufacturing defects like bad solder joints on the headphone sockets. For the 200 I'll wait a few months, un...

I hope by the time Ikaruga get a release, there will be a proper arcade stick available, or else the game will still be unplayable.

The PAL version of Ikaruga suffers from a dismal framerate conversion. The game models run in 50HZ, while the backgrounds run in 60HZ. Furthermore, there is no 60HZ switch available. The effect is best demonstrated on the WII: a) Set the Wii Display mode to standard PAL: the "sprites" are drawn smoo...

I don't mind emulation at all (in fact, I love it), provided I can get reasonably accurate controls, picture and sound. The quality of emulation for most popular systems is very good, and using an emulator prevents damaging the original hard- and software. For controls that usually means using somet...

Why should there have to be an ideal ratio between levels and bosses? A good game is a good game.

Of course this is an issue with all old electronics. When's the time that using them starts to get risky? I still play my Vectrex, but not nearly as often as I would like because of it. Frankly, I'm amazed that maufacturers supported consoles like the Saturn or the Neo-Geo as long as they did.

It's "monogatari", btw. Loosely translated as "(The epic) Tale of...". As said, it helps when you know what you're buying (or selling, for that matter)

Tempo jr isn't that common! not worth 200 quid though. Anyhow, the Game Gear is hardly a sexy system, so prices won't be as inflated as, say, for Saturn games.
