Re: My Game Gear has come back to life!

I'd have done this too - except I already bought the replacement caps myself and started soldering them before reading this thread! Oh well! I replaced about half the caps at the weekend and then reassembled just to check I was doing it right and hadn't made a mistake. To my relief it was still work...

Re: What games/consoles have you bought this week??

So I guess I'd be better off biding my time then? Luckily I don't care about spine cards on Mega CD games so that might help (I know it has a small affect on value). Looks like I've been sucked into the harsh world of Mega CD collecting where Spence.77 ruins everything. He's selling a sealed Snatch...

Re: What games/consoles have you bought this week??

Also, does anybody know what I should be paying for a complete copy of Snatcher on PAL MCD? I don't want to fall foul of greedy rip-off ebay merchants . The cheapest I can see is £122.99 on a BIN but I always assumed it was an £80-£100 game. I've seen a couple go in the last week on ebay (auct...

Good one for the NES is New Ghostbusters II: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Ghostbusters_2 But make sure you don't accidentally get Ghostbusters II: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ghostbusters_II_%28NES%29 Confusing I know, but the first one is an excellent Japanese and European only game, developed...

Re: Retro Gaming Urban Legends, Hoaxes And Lies

Anyone remember the secret island on Goldeneye for the N64? On the dam level, you can just about see a small island on the other side off the lake. It's impossible to reach it, but rumours persisted that there was a secret method for getting there. Turns out it was going to be a feature in the game,...

Re: RetroDuo in PAL regions

Be aware that all these Clone systems are designed to run NTSC (60Mhz) games. I can't speak for SNES titles, but for PAL NES games this causes something of a headache. Put a PAL NES game into one of these NTSC systems and it runs about 20% faster (this is most noticeable in the sped-up music). For s...

Re: I stayed up all night and completed...

oh its easy to fault it especially if you dont like boss battles I know what you mean about boss battles. I much prefer a steady incline of challenge rather than being confronted with a tougher single character to beat at every milestone. For example, I just finished Dead Rising 2, and as much as I...

Re: Castlevania..

The NES/Famicom is my main console (so I'm biased), still - I think Castlevania III is easily my all time favourite. The ability to switch between characters and the lush graphics and sound (for 8-bit) win it for me. 1. Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse (Famicom version for the best music) 2. Castlev...

BTW - even thugh it's not got a region lockout, I'm assuming the AV Famicom is still stuck at 60hz even with a PAL game plugged in through an adapter?

Re: Double Dragon!

I just picked up a minty boxed & complete Double Dragon for the original GameBoy today from the car boot sale :D Nice. The Gameboy version is brilliant. I got the Japanese version from a mate at primary school when I first got a GB. Even since getting MAME years ago the Gameboy version is my most p...

Re: NES clone that will play PAL games at 50hz?

Lorfarius - I've been looking at AV Famicoms on eBay. Seem to be averaging £75 (out of box). I have a samll collection of Famicom games anwya so would like one for them too! I would just need a decent NES to Famicom adapter for my games, though I've heard you can't use them on AV Famicom (only origi...

Re: NES clone that will play PAL games at 50hz?

Mainly because the picture from the AV out on my standard NES is so crummy. I know these newer clones actually give a much sharper picture than was possible with the NES's dated technology. Also it won't run my Famicom games (even though I've given it the snip and got a famicom>nes adapter...mysteri...
