Re: If the Engine got its official release..
Speaking as a rabid lover of the PCE, I dont think it wouldve really done the business over here, tbh. I think it wouldve ended up in the same situation as in the States. Some of the big name, high quality conversions wouldve maybe given it a decent start, but the very Japanese nature of some of its...

Re: Wii - Ghost Squad - awesome SEGA gun game. + best wii gu
Great game, I think the combination of it being a bit archaic/on the Wii lead to it being fairly underrated, its still my favourite lightgun shooter on the machine by some distance. The dialogue and voice acting are charmingly naff: "We'll neutralise the terrorists! And rescue the hostages!" "MCCOY....

Re: The decline and fall of western game development
Have games developed in the west got that much better or has the world changed around them? Ten years ago western games were technical good, artistically poor and were dominated by FPs's and racers. Now.. well it's not that different :) Ok, there has been some diversification, especially with downl...

Re: Fairlight 1 and 2
I think I got pretty close to finishing the first, but Fairlight 2 was so bugged (alledgedly released unfinished due to the publisher scamming the programmer, Bo Jangeborg) it was unreal. IIRC there are invisible objects and a problem where you could enter a room, leave it by the same entrance and f...

Re: Gradius V
....You get to the end, the final section after stage 7, go through what is actually a very cool section, and then you.... well, I wont spoil it for those that havent gotten there... it's a cool scene, actually... but there's no boss at the very end. I think I know of the scene you refer to -very c...

Re: Gradius V
Stage 6 in particular. I think that's the one that just IRKED me the most. There's the "acid" section... you'll know THAT when you see it... which is annoying enough in and of itself... but then there's the BACKWARDS section... ...In all honesty I just dont really have the patience for the Gradius ...

Re: Gradius V
A 1cc takes some skill I imagine, but also a whole lot of stamina. My only problem with game is the length, it's just too long, I never really spent time playing for scores. I've come to think that this is the games flaw, actually. The first level alone is the equivalent to, what, maybe two-three l...

Re: What are your favourite items in your collection?
- Spectrum 128k brand new in box. And the collection of ace speccy titles I've been slowly building since 1986 that still give me a warm glow. Nothing startlingly rare, but its nice to have complete copies of the likes of Antiriad , Split Personalities , Academy , Where Time Stood Still , Starglider...

Re: Graphic Novels - Complete newbie needs recommendations
As far as depressing goes, I guess it depends where you draw the line-Maus is quite heavy, but not in the bad trip kind of way that ETHC and P&F are. Maruo is perverse and depressing, so that could be one to miss, actually.
Happy hunting

Action: Rex Platform: Chucky Egg Shoot em up: Cybernoid Beat em up: Renegade Driving: Turbo Esprit. Enduro Racer and Chase HQ are probably the best racing/driving conversions. Platform adventure: Starquake Isometric platform/adventure: Head Over Heels Space: Micronaut One Puzzle: Spitting images/ Sp...

Re: From the forum issue 96
Split Personalities was a slick, witty puzzler and the spectrum 128k Empire Strikes Back was a great arcade conversion.

Re: Feedback Issue 93
Its a shame the Rastan feature, in criticising the sound/multiload of the spectrum 48k version, neglects to mention that the 128k version is single load with great AY interpretations of the arcade music. Easily the best 8 bit computer version.
