Re: Questions For Jon "Atari, Electric Dreams, Activision" Dean

The he moved to London to work at Atarisoft as a producer, working on such games as Pole Position, Pac Man, Ms Pacman and dig dug for the Spectrum, Amstrad CPC, BBC and Dragon 32. Was any work done for these games for the Amstrad CPC? If so, whow far in development were they and why didn't they get...

Re: Emulating Tetris Gameboy version on the Amstrad CPC 6128

Wait a minute. Is the soundchip in the Yamaha CX5M MSX really a development of the legendary Yamaha DX7? https://gist.github.com/bryc/e85315f758ff3eced19d2d4fdeef01c5 "DX7: YM2128(0) (OPS, FM Operator Type-S) and YM2129(0) (EGS) mid 1983, the original FM synthesizer, direct predecessor to YM2151/YM2...

Re: Emulating Tetris Gameboy version on the Amstrad CPC 6128

I used to think back in my teenage years that the Gameboy and CPC should be able to play similar games as they both used the same processor - and now someone's managed it... Very impressive to emulate it so well. Very close to perfect, except for the music. They still work on it trying to improve t...

Note, this is the Amstrad 6128 plus version, not the Amstrad CPC 6128 version.

This will look like a repeat of my Aug 31st message, but it is still true...

Still nothing since #205 here in Atlanta, GA, USA. Any US subscriber sightings of issues #206 or later?
Still missing issue 206. I have now received all the other issues. (Norway)

Screen shots of games looked better in the old days

Screen shots of games looked better in the old days. This particular shot is a scan from 160x200 pixel Amstrad game with 16 colours. It was taken by a camera before being printed in 1985 by a french magazine. I wish Retro Gamer could do the same, sometimes use real photos from CRT monitors. Old game...

In all honesty, I'd forgotten about that and was thinking of Amstrad's Mega PC with the MegaDrive in it.
Meanwhile I was thinking about the Amstrad plus machines with "the GX4000 in it"...

Re: Why was Pinball Dreams series never released for the Atari ST

Starball is new to me. Looks pretty decent, although it runs way smoother when running on the Atari Falcon. I wonder if that is the way it is captured, the processor difference or that the game actually can use the Falcon hardware scrolling. Obsession is impressive, it seems like the Atari Falcon ha...

Why was Pinball Dreams series never released for the Atari ST

Why was Pinball Dreams/Fantasies/Illusions never released for the Atari ST? Growing up, it must have been hard seeing this great game on your Amiga-owning friends machines and not your Atari ST. I know that a good version of it was eventually released for the Atari Falcon. But that machine was serio...

Re: The New gen thread PS5/XBOXsX (feat PONG)

A race between a Wifi router and a air purifier The winner is the one we will want to play games on 20 years from now. I will wait. But will it be anything to pick up 20 years from now? Will the games be available? Online servers all gone? Will emulation of the new old censored be the only thing av...

Re: Stunning new Amstrad CPC racing game

Not many games were specifically made for the NEC PC-8801 MC, which is a shame, but as you say it was backwards compatible with the previous models in the PC-88 series. Additionally, the CD drive that came as standard in most PC-8801 MC's was identical to the CD-ROM² add-on for the PC Engine, and y...

Re: Stunning new Amstrad CPC racing game

It looks fantastic. To be fair, though, there are other 8-bits that can run impressive looking racers too. For example, the NEC PC-8801 MC has a Z80-based CPU and you can play PC Engine games like Outrun on it. :) The specs are very impressive with 48kB to 256 kB video RAM. N mode: PC-8000 series c...
