Re: Favourite Launch Titles

Riiiiidge Raaaacer!!! A hell of a first game and the first time that the arcade really properly came home IMHO. As a Ridge Racer fan, I sadly do get suckered into buying a lot of launch games along with very expensive consoles :) Not bothering with the 3DS though, not for one game that's nearly all ...

Re: Whats your favourite SEGA console

The Saturn without a doubt. Not many AAA games (well, not many games at all) but what there was was outstanding. It's one of the very few machines that I could never part with.

Re: Thoughts on Spectrum iPad/iPhone emulator

Well I kinda like it, but for me one of the strengths of the Spectrum was that it was much more than just a cheap games console. The BASIC was so accessible and awesome. Until I see that implemented, my interest will remain minimal.

Re: most annoying announcer\narrator

The guy in Ridge Racer 6. There's a mechanism in that game where if you time your boost to end just as you begin a drift, it charges back up again. It's called Ultimate charge and it happens on most corners. This doesn't stop the announcer from excitedly crying out "Whooo! It's the Ultimate charge" ...

Re: Ridge Racer - Arse or Class?

Class, all the way. I love Ridge Racer, the fourth game is still my favourite game of all time. Now, of course, it's not a perfect series. There have been missteps along the way, but it continues to be a totally unique experience. The thing with Ridge Racer, and I think the reason why it evokes such...

Re: ps1 racers V ps2 racers

I love the Jogcon. I've got two in case one dies. The force feedback is really something else, a feature which makes the already astonishing Ridge Racer 4 even better. I was using it today, as a matter of fact. As for holding it: index fingers on triggers, central wheel clamped between outer edges o...

I bought Tunnel B1 a couple of years back (for 2 quid). I still feel violated :)

Re: must have saturn games

Well, you definitely need to get hold of Nights into Dreams (and an analogue pad) - that game is just beautiful. Sega Rally still plays like a dream. Also, Panzer Dragoon Zwei is a great on-the-rails 3D shooter and, if you can put up with the aged 3D, Burning Rangers is one of Sonic Teams finest eff...

Re: Which Handheld should i buy.... help please

Both the DS and PSP are aged consoles on their deathbeds (in the west at least). I have both and all my handheld gaming is with an iOS device (iPhone/iPod touch). So I'd recommend that. Dirt cheap games and a huge selection, from big publisher AAA titles to quick fix novelty stuff.

Re: the elder scrolls 5

It won't be using the Gamebryo engine apparently. Glad of that, it was beginning to look very old. Can't admit to being a big fan of Oblivion for all the reasons stated in this thread already. D&D style fantasy always bothers me - all those villages with well clothed and fed populations, yet no farm...

Re: Nintendo Gamecube, Any good? Best Games?

Gamecube is a marvellous machine. Great games, lovely form factor, genius controller and a nice UI.
I'd recommend Eternal Darkness, Doshin the Giant, Rogue Leader and Burnout 2.
I've long since got rid of my Wii, but the GC remains plugged in to this day.

I want an Assoluto Fatalita from Ridge Racer. Awesome name for a car. Not too practical, though. Maybe that starship from Mass Effect. That'd be sweet:)

Re: Gamecube - your favourite title and collecting

Bought a GC control pad off eBay for my Nephew a couple of days ago for about £10. Turned up today - it's a boxed Japanese pad with all the inserts! £10 :). Suffice to say, I'll be keeping it and he can have my old one.

Re: Game Room Gone?.

I don't know what Microsofts problem was with retro titles being on XBLA. The seem to have scared off Robotron before I had a chance to buy it! As for Game Room, I disliked it even before it was clear that the games weren't coming. Why? Well, the thunderous great front end. 80s arcade games were an ...

Melbourne House finally close their doors.

I read the news that Krome (the Game Room and new Transformers game people) have folded. What I didn't know is that they were, in fact, Melbourne House and, before that, Beam software. Horace is dead! The fist has finally exploded! The small round door to the east has closed for good as Gandalf take...
