Re: Off to Australia, need your help!
Nah, it's only about a 9 or 10 hour drive... it's a bit under 800km.

Re: Hey! I made a comic!
I can't be the only one who hit the link, kind of expecting something a bit crappy, only to go 'Holy sh1t!' when I saw the superb quality of the artwork. Funnily enough, I've wondered from time to time what your avatar is from. Now I know! Nice work indeed. Going to have to give it a proper read lat...

Travel about 30mins to 1hr out of any Australian city and you'll get that.miner2049er wrote:has great views with a feeling of being in the bush while still being near the city.

Re: The Physics Of Jumping Whilst On A Train
The air inside the train will not be moving at exactly the same constant velocity as the train, which will create friction, which will create drag. But why won't the air be moving at the same constant velocity as the train? To clarify, if the carriage was air-tight (not a vacuum, just air-tight), w...

Re: The Physics Of Jumping Whilst On A Train
But why would you decelerate? What force is acting upon you to decrease your speed? I think you're making the mistake of assuming that the air will be pushing you back, but the air in the carriage is moving with the carriage at the same speed. (remember, we have the windows shut in this example.) T...

Re: The Physics Of Jumping Whilst On A Train
In a vaccuum where there is virtually no friction you just wouldn't slow down at all, moving forward forever at a constant velocity... You wouldn't need a vaccuum to achieve that, surely? All you'd need is to have the windows on the train closed. eg: The carriage is moving at 70mph, you're standing...

Re: The Physics Of Jumping Whilst On A Train
Now all we need is something like the 'consider a bucket of water with cork in it, but the cork is attached to a spring that is attached to the bottom of the bucket and is keeping the cork just under the water level, and then the bucket is dropped off a building' question. Or maybe just the dreaded ...

Re: The Physics Of Jumping Whilst On A Train
I'm not sure that it can be said that the air particles have a forward velocity equal to that of the train. After all, they are free moving and therefore moving at every conceivable angle, so very few particles will in fact have a forward velocity matching that of the train. There are also convenct...

Re: Is being a retro only gamer wrong?
You've grown up! Things aren't as magical or exciting as they once were. I know what you mean. When I was a kid, I could spends hours poring over the pack a Star Wars figure came in, drooling over the collection of figures displayed on the back, admiring every small detail, wishing I could get my g...
Re: "LOL"
I'm always reluctant to write LOL, because most of the time, although I might have found something funny, chances are I didn't actually laugh OUT LOUD. I do my laughing on the inside . *casts emo-like gloomy looks all around* But sometimes I'll kind of snort, or blow air out my nose in a kind of lau...
