Re: Retro Gamer 172 - With Super Play Magazine

For anyone still after a copy of Retro Gamer 172, the WH Smith in Whitgift in Croydon had two copies this evening, and the small WH Smith next to the main railway station entrance in Wimbledon also had two copies this evening.

Re: Future acquire Imagine

Well, I can't say that I'm too impressed with the stocks of (formerly) Imagine magazines that Future now have on the MyFavouriteMagazines site. I've checked a few (formerly) Imagine mags I have subscriptions to, such as Retro Gamer, Games TM, How It Works and All About Space, and the only back issue...

Re: Bookazines / Specials

I saw the SNES: The Complete Manual book in the Croydon WHSmith the other day. It looked interesting, but I presume all the material in the book is taken from previous issues of Retro Gamer, correct?

Re: Future acquire Imagine

If Future close either Games TM or Retro Gamer I'll be f*cking furious. They're two of my favourite magazines and they're not up their own arses the way Edge is. This is how capitalism works though. If you can't beat your competition any other way, buy them and their products and then scrap your com...

Re: It's official - NEW ELITE IS A GO

I've been a fan of the original Elite since it was first released on the BBC. But I won't be buying this new Elite, for a few reasons. First, I'm a console gamer and don't like PC games because of all the hassle of having a powerful enough system and all that. Second, this new Elite (like Elite 2 be...

Re: Happy 30th birthday to the ZX Spectrum

I raise my glass (well, mug of tea) to the Speccy. A great little machine. My 16K Speccy still works after 30 years (or at least it did when I last connected it up a year or two ago). I bet it wouldn't still be working if it had been some old 'Made in China' rubbish.

Re: Goldeneye wii

The Games review of this game describes the original N64 version as "utterly unplayable today". Er....what? I find the N64 game is still playable these days.

If you can get hold of a copy of Tecmo Classic Arcade for the Xbox, you'll find Bombjack on that.

Re: Official Issue 75 Feedback thread

In Paul Davies's column, he says something about Sony Europe making a complete joke of Final Fantasy VII. What does he mean by that?

Re: Microsoft Game Room

I've read Darran and Stuart's posts with interest. The emulation on these games may not be perfect, but what are the alternatives? Even if you're for some reason opposed to just using MAME and want to go down legal routes, there are plenty of alternatives for most of the games in Game Room. Scrambl...

Re: Microsoft Game Room

I've read Darran and Stuart's posts with interest. The emulation on these games may not be perfect, but what are the alternatives? Buy a real arcade cabinet? That's simply out of the question for most people because of cost and space reasons. I never played some of these games in the arcade myself, ...

Re: Issue 71 Feedback Thread

Note that Frey's book is still about, and recommended for anyone who's a fan. At Book Palace , you also get a limited print. Given that Thalamus closed its doors a few months back, anyone wanting a copy should probably grab one while there are still some available. Coincidentally, my copy of the ne...

Re: Digital Eclipse's XBLA ports: good emulation or not?

Thanks for replying.

I was aware of the trial versions of Arcade games, yes. I was really just wondering if Digital Eclipse's Arcade ports are the most faithfully emulated versions of the original coin-ops that it's possible to get.

Digital Eclipse's XBLA ports: good emulation or not?

I've been considering buying some of Digital Eclipse's coin-op ports on Xbox Live Arcade, Time Pilot being one game I'm considering buying. Could anyone tell me how faithful to the original coin-ops the emulation is generally in Digital Eclipse's ports?
