Re: Calling all Arcade Game Designers
When you say "classic arcade games" we're talking on modern hardware, right...? Hi. For me it is modern hardware but theory and design can extend to any platform I guess. I should probably have termed it "in the style of classic arcade games". Ah, it's not really the same thing at all no... designi...

Re: Yes, me...
I have a site, www.8bitrocket.com where I discuss retro games, and creating them in Flash. My first retro game was an Asteroids variant called Retro Blaster. It has extra weapons, bosses, cheat codes, etc. My next game is a Pacman style game along the same lines. I like to take the early 80's games...

Re: Calling all Arcade Game Designers
Is anybody here geeky enough to enjoy the theory of designing and developing their own classic arcade games. Or just simple games in general? I'm very keen to start up a newsletter/group with input from people who share my passion for the theory and development of arcade games ! The purpose of the ...

Are you using any special library to make your games? Hi Jeff. I think it's pretty special ;) But no. I just created a framework from the ground up that allowed me to create, move and destroy sprites whilst accepting user input and firing missiles etc. It's a bit more than that but essentially it's...

Recreating the mix of fierce contest http://s11.invisionfree.com/RetroLeague/index.php?act=idx can help out with that bit. Or if you're really good there's the LLama League, as well as a few others. Or you could just start chasing Twin Galaxies scores. We've beaten a few of those in the League :D L...

Mame.net Ultimarc.co.uk And B&Q. Couple of hundred quid and a weekends work and you can have your own arcade at home.....now you couldn't do that in the 80's. Playing the games isn't the problem. Recreating the mix of fierce contest, grubby yet enthusiastic audience and genuine excitement because y...

I still remember hearing the electronic wind up of Defender for the first time as I trampled through the sh1te and across the cables at the edge of the fair. I used to love the fair. When I actually got to see the game itself I was mesmerised by the lasers. But Defender was for men with balls. Big m...

Isn't this just Prince of Persia a bit further down the road? They both have swordfighting and climbing, but that's where the similarities end. They are very different games, and it's pretty much a different experience altogether, compared to any game. In other words, no, they're totally different ...
