Re: Nintendo Switch Discussion

For those still yet to bite on Starlink, its now down to £11.99 brand new at Argos as well as a fair few of the figurines as low as £1.79. Still resisting, haha. The price is great but I think having a variety of weapons and ships would be more fun so I might try to get it on sale digitally when I ...

Re: TheC64!

This was the machine that they always wanted to make. They just got sidetracked because of the mini console craze. Still, if that hadn't happened, this probably wouldn't either and it'll be a better machine for it because of what they've learned. My fingers are crossed that they don't have any of th...

Re: Amstrad, Spectrum or C64. What is the worst and best hardware for gaming?

It is a virtue because it meant C64 users were happy enough with their existing hardware to not want upgrades (Commodore even had trouble getting C64 users over to the Amiga). I'm not convinced that the C128 was even capable of running a killer app that would have blown the standard C64 away. As St...

Re: Amstrad, Spectrum or C64. What is the worst and best hardware for gaming?

One of the things I most admire about the C64 is that the bog standard model held its own from around 1984 to 1993 and there was no need for any major hardware revisions or memory/processor upgrades. You bought a C64 and that was it. The C64 you bought for Impossible Mission was just as good for Ma...

Re: Quake II Fully Ray Traced

You need dual RTX 2080 Ti cards in SLI to get over 30 fps in 4K with maxed settings here, that's pretty hefty if you ask me. Nevermind that the RTX option only works on certain Nvidia cards, some of whom can only run it in low resolutions to get playlable framerates. Yeah, you do, but it's not real...

Re: Augmentinel

It's a while since I've looked at it myself, but you could give Trinus Cardboard VR a look. There's a free try-before-you-buy version, so you don't have to put down any money until you're satisfied that you'll want to use it in the long term. I know I didn't. Don't expect anything even remotely clos...

Re: Quake II Fully Ray Traced

On the other hand, this is the first time a game is actually pushing the PC past it's limits since Crysis from back in 2007. Not really, at least I don't think it's doing so any more than the other games that support RTX in some fashion. They all need a 20 series card with it turned on, but work on...

Re: Definative place for solving PC game issues?

No joy then? It's not a game I've got, but from what I'm reading it sounds like there are a whole host of different issues as to why it might not work. There do at least seem to be a few people on there still playing it though, so maybe ask them if there's anything else they had to set up and see if...

Re: Nintendo Switch Discussion

I thought it was an excellent Direct - sure, could have had other stuff in it - that will always be the case. The only downer for me was the lack of a Christmas big hitter - I was hoping for Animal Crossing, so my daughter and I could have some fun with that over the festive period. September looks...

Re: Nintendo Switch Discussion

Each to their own, I guess, but it was a pretty good one for me. It's nice to have dates for Link's Awakening and Animal Crossing, even if the latter is next year, and the news of a sequel to Breath of the Wild in the works is huge for me. With good third party games regularly turning up out of the ...

Re: Definative place for solving PC game issues?

The Steam forums are usually one of the best places to start looking.

A spot of Googling turned up this guide for Dirt:

FWIW you'd have much the same problems on Windows 7.

Re: Quake II Fully Ray Traced

I've now had a go at it on a friend's RTX 2080 Ti and, to be honest, it's not really that much improved. You can get decent frame rates at non-retro resolutions but it's not like the game looks much better for it. Assorted pundits have suggested that the graphics pretty much top out at 720p, beyond ...

Re: Backwards Compatability

The good news seems to be that Project Scarlett will boast three generations of backwards compatibility at launch. I'd love to see Sony and Nintendo pick up the gauntlet on that. There are always going to be games that can't be offered because of technical and licensing issues, I suppose, but it wou...

Re: Comin to a PC near you...

I really enjoyed the game - and the rest of Gargoyle's adventures - back in the day, and think that looks great so far.

If you're going to add one thing over the original game, I'd suggest an auto-map.

Cool avatar, by the way.

Re: Quake II Fully Ray Traced

Yeah, the performance is very poor. You're pretty much wasting your time playing on a 10 series card. I managed to get it running on a 1070 after a few tweaks, but had to put the resolution down to 800x600 to get the frame rate up into the high 20s. That's a card that'll usually get over 30 on most ...
