Re: Collecting or Hoarding......??

I think it's a problem if your living space has become complete unsanitary to the point where actual trash is not thrown out. I've watched the TV series "Hoarders" on a number of occasions and it's frightening how people live with dead cats, piles of trash, and in one episode even human waste when t...

Re: Great Retro-gaming websites - the sticky thread!

Part one of my new feature "Selecting Save on the Games We Make" was published this morning on Gamasutra. It's an official follow-up to "Where Games Go To Sleep: The Game Preservation Crisis" from last year. Find out how developers including Warren Spector, Richard Garriott, Square Enix, and Team Ni...

Re: US readers -- when do you see the mag in your stores?

Since Borders has gone bankrupt and shut down its stores, I no longer have a local source to get the latest issues of RG. The closest Barnes & Noble store is a one hour drive away. A new book store chain, Books-A-Million, has opened replaced Borders in about 30 locations. The grand opening of our lo...

Re: Great Retro-gaming websites - the sticky thread!

Final part of my game preservation article is up on Gamasutra: [In this, the final installment of Where Games Go To Sleep, Microsoft, Nintendo, Sony, and other leading video game companies respond to a video game preservation questionnaire, disclosing how they're saving their video game history. Dev...

Re: Great Retro-gaming websites - the sticky thread!

Second part of Where Games Go To Sleep is now up on Gamasutra. In part two I profile how developers and publishers are vulnerable to natural disasters (Konami losing material in the Kobe earthquake in particular). Museums and academic archives including the NVA, ICHEG, Stanford, UT Video Game Archiv...

Re: Great Retro-gaming websites - the sticky thread!

Hope it's ok if I post this here, it's not exactly a website, but a long online article that I put a lot of time into. The first part (of three) was just published on Gamasutra, titled "Where Games Go To Sleep - The Game Preservation Crisis". The highlight of the whole article (which is in the third...

Re: Computer related clothing

When I was a kid I called a company to ask about their Nintendo clothing and which retailers carried their line. I must have gotten the owner, she sent me free of charge, a Nintendo Power sweatshirt. As for my present gaming clothing, I'm a prowd owner of an Umbrella Corporation t-shirt. Now to get ...

I'd really like the opportunity to see companies like Chicago Gaming Company or Global VR get some coverage on thier cabinets. Chicago Gaming's cabs such as Ultimate Arcade 2 sold in Costco, and Arcade Legends 2 are really well constructed cabs. Ex: Chicago Gaming Company Link http://www.chicago-gam...

Sega Europe Closing Amusements Division?

It appears that Sega may no longer import, export or sell arcade coin-op machines in Europe. I just came across this press release on the Sega-Sammy website: http://www.segasammy.co.jp/english/pdf/release/20080229_final_e.pdf Anyone know what's going on, or have anymore info? Nothing on the Sega Amu...

Picked up a Sega Genesis 2 for $2.00 and an AC adapter for $1.00 this past weekend. I'll be able to add that to the Genesis 3 already in my collection. At the same shop I scored four N64 games: Snowboard Kids, Waverace 64, Flying Dragon, and Goldeneye 007 - all for $10.00. Up the street I discovered...

Yeah, good point, i'm no expert at cabinet restoration, but are JAMMA CRT's easy to get a hold of? I assume people install whatever CRT's they can find even if they aren't an exact fit.

Hmmm....all of these cabinets seem to have a similar design, blue color and they're probably made out of cheap wood. What interests me more are the Jamma cabinets on the upper-right of the picture. I'm sure they've gotten quite a bit of rain damage, but taking a pair, replacing the monitors with som...

Miyamoto CNN Interview

Hi everyone, CNN Talk Asia had an interview with Shigeru Miyamoto and they posted 22 minutes of video (I think the entire interview) and a transcript of it online. It's really cool to hear the genius retrospect about his career. The video is broken into three parts: *Shigeru Miyamoto reflects on his...
