Re: Virtual Pinball

I'm pretty sure that most of the people out there making tables would do it for you if you made it worth their while. It's just got to be a bit of an under-the-counter service, because the licensing restrictions for the emulators forbid bundling them with games and hardware, and most of the games a...

Re: Virtual Pinball

The result is a far superior experience, but you pretty much need a high spec modern gaming PC including the graphics card, hence the astronomical cost of cabinets that do it all. Would it help if you knew that most of that extra £800 was being spent on giving your cabinet brand new hardware rather...

Re: Stuey's Awesome Name-That-Game Challenge

No, definitely not that - funnily enough I was just playing it the other day, and Yuu Maze and the Atari 8-bit homebrew port. Raimais has a lot of freedom of movement, the one I'm thinking of plays much closer to the original Head-On. It's got a very Konami/Taito sort of look, bright and pastelly, b...

Re: Virtual Pinball

Yup, it cant run on a cheap-o PC, even if the prices of such a thing seem to be dropping. I was very surprised when they told me Visual Pinball was much more resource-greedy than Future Pinball, because many years ago when I first got into pinball emulation the reverse was true. But I didn't really...

Stuey's Awesome Name-That-Game Challenge

So this week I've been well into Head-On games, starting with the arcade original: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iYDrd9jE4WU But I'm going mad trying to find out the name of a remake that I (incompletely, clearly) remember. It would have been 1980s/90s, cute 16-bit Bubble Bobble-ish graphics, with...

Re: Virtual Pinball

I'm DYING to throw money at someone for a good one of these. I thought I'd found the perfect one here, nice and compact and ready to play: https://www.minivirtualpinball.it/prodotto/mini-virtual-pinball-complete-machine/ but it only comes with Future Pinball tables, whereas most of the ones I want a...

Re: Retro Gamer - Issue 138

I am FILLED WITH OUTRAGE at the absence of Tempest from the ZX81 top 25. As I read I was wondering which position in the top 3 it would occupy (the only serious competition being 3DMM and Mazogs), but NOWHERE? I am cancelling my imaginary subscription.

Changing the name to Chiptune Gamer was a bit over-the-top, though.

Re: Retro Gamer Issue 104

Yeah, yeah, I'm bored of whiny Kick Off fans now. How the hell is Sensible Soccer like Sokoban?

Re: Retro Gamer Issue 104

Sensible Soccer isn't football, it's a twisted form of Sokoban. I would seriously love to hear the rationale behind that conclusion. Just play it, you'll either see it or you won't. One thing Sensi isn't is football. I disagree. It's more like football than any football videogame I've ever played b...

(actually, Stu doesn't write in the first person, using the royal 'we' like other freelancers, but i get what Daz means - Stu C is allowed to express his opinions pretty freely). In fact I'm normally allowed a tiny bit of privilege in that regard, but this month some mustard-keen sub stripped even ...

You noticed that the piece WASN'T called "The Definitive Kick Off", right?
