Of course, gameplay is going to be of paramount importance, but I believe that there also is a strong link between first impressions and lasting appeal. So, for many of us "of a certain age" (the thirty-somethings say), our first experience of gaming was on micros such as the Spectrum, Amstrad CPC, ...

The Mike Singleton interview was part of the Lords of Midnight super-article which spanned issues 4 and 5. I don't think that he covered the Midwinter series in much detail though, it was mainly LOM focused. (Can't check just now, I'm at work. Errr... working. Honest!)

Re:

I am so jealous, I have YC envy. Am not sure what the first issue I have is but its below ten. I'm kicking myself for throwing away many other mags I had. However, I still have (in addition to YC): - Almost complete Sinclair User form Issue 1 onwards - Almost complete QL World/QL User (a very few m...

I have most of the "Your Computer" magazines, from issue 1 almost to the very last (I can't remember exactly which). YC reviewed pretty much every micro that was sold in the UK. I can dig out the Memotech reviews (MTX500, MTX512) and get them scanned if somebody does decide to do an article and need...

Elite (BBC), Lords of Midnight (Speccy), and Diablo on PC (that last one scared the hell out of me!)

Zelda Ocarina of Time was (is) outsanding, agreed.

There can be only one... Lords of Midnight of course! :)

(Edit: *not* "The Citadel" for DOS which was deeply flawed, but the Speccy, C64 and CPC originals)

Another excellent issue, with many gems. Congratulations guys.

Just one thing again: the Speccy photos/dates/models are still wrong.
(And still no QL, but that's just me, isn't it?! ;))

Romance? Uh-oh!

If I can't be Lara's bit on the side, I'd settle for being bugaboo the flea! :D

I've heard tell that in one of the Lara Croft games, she has a boyfriend called Jean-Yves. Well it just so happens that this is my name too. Ergo, I am Lara Croft's boyfriend and I demand that I be pixelated immediately. I'll let you know how I get on with Lara... 8)

Re:

The best way to categorise something is by establishing its primary function. I agree with you actually, but I think that "computer" is not a primary *function*. eg: My Passat has a computer in it. The Passat is not a computer. I accept this! Ditto my washing machine and my television, DVD player, ...

I agree. The microdrives were the big killer, the keyboard was not resilient enough for touch typists, the RAM was too restricted, and he cut extra corners by sticking a 68008 in there rather than a full blown 16-bit 68000. Still, the OS was (still is) a joy, the SuperBASIC language was wonderful to...

Re:

Sinclair QL of course. Headlines could include "No Queues for QL's" and there could be a free microdrive on the cover (which may wipe itself at random).* All the Linux fanboys would buy a copy as well as it would have an interview with that Linus bloke who invented it as his first computer was a QL...

Re:

In fact my mobile phone has all of those inlcuding apps. That doesn't make it any more of a computer. Yes it does - the OS is probably something like Symbian (descendant of Psion's EPOC OS for its palm computers), WinCE , embedded Linux. It runs apps (try doing that on an old analogue handse...

Very good point - I'd forgotten about that.
