Re: WiiWare recommendations?
Rise from your grave dead topic! Disclaimer, I know the dev who produced this. But I've held off posting until I got some time to play it at home. escapeVektor:Episode 1 is like Amidar/Painter with Tron aesthetic. (Think lots of nice glowy lines.) At the moment it's only on WiiWare. http://images.ni...

Re: Prince Of Persia on C64
So this wouldn't/isn't possible to re-create on cassette or disk right, only possible by streaming data from the flash-cart on the fly - so does that make it a proper Commodore 64 game then? Impressive though it is, it's using modern tech, and so somehow doesn't count in my mind. Am I wrong to have...

Re: New Versus Old - Duke Nukem Forever Vs. DN3D
The original is the best. DNF is Duke hitting middle age. Bigger, slower and still telling the same jokes. Fresh back in the day but tiresome now. That might say more about me getting old rather than the game feeling old.

You might be interested in the article about Langdall vs Future Publishing over at http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2011/06/16/tim-langdell-loses-in-future-edge-trial/ Some of it is amazing. Not a lot has been heard from trademark champion Tim Langdell in a while. The lawyer-happy supreme owner of th...

Re: Paul Woakes Interview please
I'd love to see an article on the Mercenary series. Unfortunetly Bruce Jordan passed away in 2007 and I've never seen an interview with Paul Woakes (except for one I think in C&VG circa 1985.)

Hope I'm not too late.
I remember reading in the 80's that you had a lot of toy dinosaurs in your office at one stage. Are you ever going to make a dinosaur based game our has that ship sailed?

Re: Hot Topic - Best Julian Gollop game
I loved UFO but for me Chaos is the absolute classic. I had to discover this over a decade after it was written due to the lack of a C64 port. So simple yet so compulsive.

Re: Axelay - Best Level
I really enjoyed the sideways space level. Usually these feel too empty but the frantic pace of having to dive between capital ships while dodging fire and engines took me right back to the days of watching Robotech on a Saturday morning.

Thinking you've beaten the last boss and sitting back to enjoy the credits only to realise the fight has only just begun.

Re: Axelay - Why it's a classic
It's pretty forgiving (grazing a bullet will block access to one weapon for the rest of that life). But the best bit? You don't lose all your weapons when you die. It also maintains a sense of urgency in a lot of the levels requiring you to dodge and rush in order not to get blocked or locked out! (...

Re: Axelay - It's not for me
I like it but my gripe would be the overhead sections. Most of the mode 3 looks a little flat nowadays. Oh and shame to the copywriter for the back of the box for the PAL version. "Kiss your Axelay goodbye."

Re: First Impressions Axelay
I played this late in the day so my first impressions were that the 3D was a little flat. However it did stand out as being incredibly colourful.
Oh and it used the Gradius font!
Does this make it part of the Gradius/Scramble canon?

Re: Axelay - Best Boss
There's a reason the massive walker boos is always shown in screenshots of this game. He's the standout. The final boss deserves mention for almost catching you off guard when you think it's over.

Re: Axelay - Best Power-Up
Axelay's doesn't really have powerups. It's more like weapon loadouts at the start of each level. And as the others have said, the swivle canon you get straight from the start is the best. Powerful, flexible, the only thing it doesn't do is shoot straight ahead. Then again the only thing directly in...
