Re: Thinking about getting an snes, or perhaps an nes?

The only trouble with going for the mini models is that they're becoming scarce and prices will go up and up, due to Nintendo not making them any more. I assume it's because they want people to buy on Switch and people like me, who are always a few console generations behind. Playing on emulation of...

Re: What are you currently playing?

I've been hammering the Super Mario games and completed the NES games. So naturally the best thing to do was start them all over again on Super Mario All Stars! There's an appeal to playing on the 8 bit versions (I personally prefer some of the music on the NES), but the SNES controller is a dream f...

Re: Arcade party games

I would say the Capcom beat em ups like Final Fight and Knights of the Round. For something a bit more in depth, the D&D games were great fun too! I'm a lover not a fighter, so prefer co op games, but Snow Bros and Burger Time you could make a game out of high scores and so on

Re: What game have you COMPLETED this week

SMB 1 2 and 3. 2 was a real struggle becuase it can suck up lives, continues and patience, but with save states it's bareable, 3 I did a personal best by not using P-wings on the Tank Navy or Airforce in Dark World. So satisfying to see Bowser hit the deck. Both of them I really appreciated how they...

Re: What Films/TV Have you Watched Recently?

Thanks to Disney +, catching up on a load of nostalgic films and shorts I haven't seen for probably 30 years, namely: Dumbo - quite spooky for some reason, and being old some of the cultural depictions are way off. Who Framed Roger Roger Rabbit - still a great achievement technically, but Bob Hoskin...

Re: What are you currently playing?

After finishing the 8 bit Super Mario adventures, I needed something a bit more in-depth, so I've started playing Super Mario RPG, and Secret of Mana. The former is as charming as ever and a lovely introduction. SoM however is a bit of a struggle for me, I keep playing it like a more action-orintate...

Re: What game have you COMPLETED this week

So last week it was the turn of Super Mario World. Well, I beat Bowser, but I still have all the Special World to do. And I also finished Super Mario Bros 2. Such a good game and better than I remembered, but the lack of continues was draining. Thank god for save states!

Re: Retro Gamer - Issue 190

Your best bet, aside from keeping the N64 on a CRT, or emulating, would be to mod an N64 system with UltraHDMI. This is the best it's going to get for displaying an original system on a modern HD display, and it's still not great. Hmmm both tricky options both for expense. I was so gutted when I pl...

Re: What are you currently playing?

Ico HD remaster - picked up this and Shadow of the Collossus a while back, but for one reason or another never went back to it. SMB1 2 3 64 and Sunshine - in varying degrees. Loving the NES games, like old friends, especially satisfying getting theough the tough levels on 3. Sunshine is better than ...

Really enjoyed the feature about getting the best picture quality; I've got an N64 and it's smeared six ways to Sunday on my midrange HD TV

Never really felt compelled to play it at the time after being brutalised by Castlevania on the NES.

Re: What are you currently playing?

Just got a NES Mini, so on to SMB 1 2 3 and enjoying them all immensely. I've played them all multiple times on emulation, but playing them on proper hardware is great and much more enjoyable without one twitching finger over the save state short cuts. The NES Mini really is a little gem for me. Als...
