Re: Retro and Anime shops?

Cool great, I'll take a look when I'm there. We have the odd couple of retroish items in CEX and Cash Converters here in Torquay, but sadly nothing dedicated. I was also a bit disappointed when I went to Norwich recently too (one of my old haunts back in the late 90's) and found that the places wher...

Retro and Anime shops?

Hi folks, So my eldest daughter who is nearly 13 has developed a great interest in anime over the past 6 months, she's starting to get pretty obsessive about it, which is great as I can see a similarity with her love of anime and my love of retro gaming (plus, I did enjoy some anime back when I was ...

Re: What did you buy at the carboot today ??

Yesterday I got a component video/composite video cable. It's one of those cables that does the XBOX360, Wii and PS3/PS2. I'm probably going to use it on my PS2. Just wish the console end of the cable had longer cables going to each connector as it's a real stretch to fit them to two let alone 3 con...

Re: What games/consoles have you bought this week??

Not a console related purchase today (so apologies if this is in the wrong section) but I finally got myself another Amiga 500 today off eBay). Cost me about £17 all in, it was listed as untested so I was taking a bit of a risk but it was local (Plymouth) and I kept getting outbid at the last minute...

Re: What games/consoles have you bought this week??

Although I haven't bought any games or consoles this week, I have expressed interest in an Atari ST (1040STE I think) which a guy at work has, he's retiring tomorrow and I remember he mentioned he had it when I told everyone in a meeting that I have a love of retro computers, so fingers crossed I'm ...

Re: The Show us your cars thread

This was my second 205GTI... http://i45.photobucket.com/albums/f71/EnglishRob/rob-1.jpg I've had a few over the years, my first one was a white 1.9 205GTI which was a great car until the head gasket went on it, I didn't realise exactly what was involved to get it fixed and was quoted £600 by a local...

Re: Build your own PC?

I've recently re-built my desktop after it failed 3 years ago (a week after I bought my laptop). I occasionally build PCs out of old bits I get given and pass them on to friends and family or give them away on Freecycle but I don't do much computer building now, I just haven't got the funds to keep ...

Re: For the Mag: ZX Spectrum Memories

My first Speccy memory was when I got a ZX Spectrum +3. I'd had an Atari 65XE for the previous Christmas and it had failed, then I'd had a replacement which also failed so my Dad took it back to Currys and replaced it for a ZX Spectrum +3. Going from a machine with tapes to discs was great and I rem...

Re: Poll - Do you play new releases?

I do play some new releases. I'm not really one for going out and buying the latest games, I think the only game I've gone out and bought at release in the past couple of years was Uncharted 3. However I do occasionally pick up some pre-owned games for my XBOX360 and PS3, and sometimes get some of t...

Re: Upcoming Retro Gaming/Classic Computing events

Hi folks, I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this but the Museum of Computing in Swindon are holding an event this weekend (on Saturday 14th April) to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Mario Kart (is it really 20 years?!?). I'm not affiliated with the museum, I've just visited a couple ...

Re: How can you build a "retro-computer" for emulation?

I've been thinking about this myself recently, not having much room for lots of different computers (apart from if I set them up in the loft) it got me thinking about how I could implement something retro looking to play emulators on (as at the moment I've got a Nettop PC plugged into the TV and use...

Re: Old computers on Plasma TV

Thanks guys,

I tried my Saturn this evening and although it faired better it still made a buzzing noise. I think I'm going to try and get a couple of Scart cables from eBay, luckily it appears the C16 cable also works on the C64, VIC20 and Atari XE. :-)

Old computers on Plasma TV

Hi folks, Over the weekend I picked up an old Commodore 16 from a friend. Now at the moment I only have one TV which is a Panasonic 42" plasma TV (not sure of the model number off the top of my head). I was telling the kids how great the Commodore 16 was, set it up but then found I couldn't tune it ...

XBOX Live: trevorkevorson

I don't have many XBOX Live compatible games though, the ones that I know of that are XBL capable off the top of my head are PGR3, PGR4 and Burnout Paradise.

Re: What was the best era in retro gaming?

For me it would have to be the 8-Bit and 16-Bit eras. I first got in to computers during the 8-Bit era (started with a ZX81 but didn't really understand it much), then I went onto an Atari 65XE and then Amstrad CPC, so I have really fond memories of going to computer shops near to where I lived in D...
