Re: Arcade hardware?

Just a quick bump to see if opinion has changed on this. With the dwindling well of home systems to retroinspect, going back over arcade hardware could be large source of fascinating untapped content to focus on... This is just the Sega systems... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Sega_arcade_sy...

Re: Arcade hardware?

Thanks for the reply. That's a shame. I wonder if the renewed popularity in arcade history (unless I'm imagining it) could prompt a fresh look at the hardware in a new way? I'd love a magazine that covers retro arcade hardware.

Arcade hardware?

Is there scope for a regular arcade hardware focused feature? Even if they were rarely exported, Sega, Taito, Capcom, Irem, Namco etc. all produced incredibly well engineered arcade cabinets... http://wiki.arcadeotaku.com/w/List_of_Candy_Cabinets . ... and game hardware, such as the IREM M92, which ...

Re: My JAMMA cab

I have the same cab 8). It was striped down when I got it - over 10 years ago now - so there's no jamma harness inside, but I loved the shape and design... it's got a little PC in there, i-pac, Hantarex open frame VGA monitor, SLG3000, mars coin mech. A nice MALA frontend to mame I put together, wit...

Re: GAME "has two weeks to turn its fortunes around"

I've always found the staff in Game / Gamestation to be good, friendly guys. The stores themselves and the marketing campaigns have always bewildered me though... One campaign I specifically recall... they were advertising that you could buy the latest Zelda now, then trade it in after a week and on...

Re: is the 3ds worth getting ?

Saw CEX were giving £120 for Aqua 3DSes... I don't think that's going to last long (Gamestation are selling them for £130 preowned). It was too tempting and I traded mine in. I got myself a couple of Ds Lites + games for the kids in exchange. I really enjoyed (and completed) Shadow Wars and Ridge Ra...

Re: For the Frog the Bell Tolls - Nintendo RPG now in englis

I love this game. It shares a lot with Link's Awakening, including King Richard http://www.zeldawiki.org/Richard. The beta patch was sublime, so I'm looking forward to playing the game through again with the final patch. Honestly, this isn't to be missed by Zelda fans. It's a real classic.

Re: Gameboy Thread

Alleyway, Revenge of the Gator and Solar Striker were pretty early GB games, and a bit crude imo.
Kirby's Blockball, Pokemon Pinball and Nemesis 2 would be my choices for affordable games in the same genres.

Re: Gameboy Thread

I remember screw attack doing a video game vault where they called FaceBall 2000 one of the worst games ever made. Well, it's an FPS on an 8 bit mono handheld, so it's not going to be the pinnacle of the genre. FPS specifically (along with sports) isn't going to age well. It's actually incredible f...

Re: What console do you feel is best to collect for, and why

For me, the major factors in collecting (after enjoyment) are space, cost, availablility and variety. I want to collect for a machine that I loved back in the day.. I don't have a big loft to store boxes, infact I don't care about boxes. I want to keep the games available to play at all times. I wan...

Re: Gameboy Thread

I don't think the situation with naff GB ports is very different to any other 8-bit machine tbh... Atually, I'd say the GB did pretty well compared to most! Classic arcades like Nemesis, Double Dragon, R-Type, Space Invaders etc. are great ports. I'd even say that Battle Arena Toshinden on the GB is...

Re: MOLE MANIA - Gameboy

Mole Mania is in my top 10 of all time greats. Perfectly polished with a great difficulty curve. The game gives you some basic tools and rules, then uses them inventively all through the game. Some of the puzzle/boss solutions are brilliant.

Gameboy DK for me. It starts off like the original, but then you realise it's much, much more. Mario learned to backflip here for starters.

Re: Improving the magazine

Retroinspection was always good, but never focused enough on the the GAMES . The accompanying 10 Essentials has always been so uninspired. :x Please, please, please ... reinvent this section. Go back over the GAMES and do them properly . Consult collectors and enthusiasts (when you are ready to do G...
