FEZ free on Epic Games Store
Despite the recent flood of different online stores/game launchers for PC games, Epic Games Store seems to keep up with a nice gesture of giving away a free game each week, sometimes even two of them. Right now on the menu is FEZ, an interesting platformer which tackled the idea of a 2D world projec...

Re: What are you currently playing?
Currently replaying System Shock 2 in honor of it celebrating it's 20 year anniversary. Fantastic game. I remember my brother coming home with a copy of that when it was new.... Game is fantastic even today. Had a blast through it again. I've since moved onto AC - Odyssey. Indeed, one of the mechan...

It's "Jet Force Gemini 2: Revenge of the Tribal": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BXHJ9ZOVeK0 Considering what a masterpiece JFG was, this doesn't look *that* exciting to me, but at the same time it's nice that we're getting something new in this direction. It's also made by ex-Rare folks, so here's...

Re: Quake II Fully Ray Traced
On the other hand, this is the first time a game is actually pushing the PC past it's limits since Crysis from back in 2007. Not really, at least I don't think it's doing so any more than the other games that support RTX in some fashion. They all need a 20 series card with it turned on, but work on...

Re: Quake II Fully Ray Traced
I'd be surprised if there weren't home brew/mod remasters of Q2 out there already (on Quake 3 or Doom 3 engines for example). Indeed they are. Quake II XP and Quake II Berserker are two examples, but there's also Yamagi Quake II, Quake II Pro and several other source ports out there. Digital Foundr...

Re: Quake II Fully Ray Traced
I have to agree - it's a great tech demo for cutting-edge PC hardware, but leaves quite a lot to desire as a remaster.

Re: Quake II Fully Ray Traced
It's out since the 6th and as expected it's melting the best PCs out there. It seems it's more impressive for programmers, computer scientists and hardware enthusiasts than it is for, usually younger and less knowledgeable, gamers, since the performance hit and hardware requirements are quite massiv...

Re: Quake II Fully Ray Traced
As before, I've no arguments about its value as a tech demo. Still, like you say, when the price of entry is a £300 graphics card, it being a "free" game seems rather moot. Well, real-time ray tracing is kinda the whole point here so it requiring the type of hardware that can pull it off seems sens...

Re: Quake II Fully Ray Traced
To qualify that a bit further you could contrast it with the sort of graphical makeover that the likes of Resi 2 and the forthcoming Link's Awakening. They look like thoroughly modern games, albeit without ray tracing, rather than a very old one with some flashy effects tacked on. Those are full pr...

Re: Mega Drive Mini
More games have been announced for the Genesis so far, and it looks like they will have MEGA-CD and 32X add ons MCD and 32X games would be nice, as they tended to get the better versions of games and several worthy exclusives (e.g. Space Harrier 32X [almost Arcade-perfect port], After Burner 32X [s...

Re: Quake II Fully Ray Traced
The fancy lighting does look at odds with the low poly models.... The weapon models are new/high-poly and the textures are "HDfied", the enemy models and scenery are the same though. Personally, I like a mix of "low-poly" with higher quality lighting and sharper textures. It's about as good as it c...
