Re: First game using parallax scrolling?

On R-Type II for the Amiga I borrowed a technique used on Turrican, where you would use the hardware sprites as a background parallax layer, this meant you could have more colours on the foreground layer. The downside to this was you needed a really complex coppa list for multiplex the hardware spr...

Re: Virtual Reality Reborn (Oculus Rift) - Who's excited?

Sounds like it could really be something special, based on the reports from people who have tried it.

As with any new development, there are going to be people who dismiss it sight unseen, but those people are mouldy spuds. Mouldy spuds for life.

Re: Is Online Abuse to Developers going too far?

Fish largely brought it upon himself.

Wanting to be treated like a princess while being bluntly caustic when criticising others is a classic recipe for tantrums and tears.

In other words, don't give it if you can't take it.

Re: Steam: Please list subtitle options on the store page

I signed this petition back when I first saw this thread. My hearing is fine, but providing info regarding subtitles is an obvious necessity for those who need them, and such info really should be made available prior to purchase. Anyway, just received an email from Krissy via change.org that her ef...

Re: Any love for the isometric style game?

I used to have fun just skating around the starting location in 720º. Racing Destruction Set seemed pretty fun at the time too... slow loading aside. Trying to think of the most recently released isometric game I've played. Probably Bastion. @gman72, the iso burglar game with little isometric rats s...

Re: The XBOX ONE / PS4 discussion thread

As I understand it, after E3 MS stated that the Kinect had to be connected to the Xbox One in order for the console to function. Then they later said that the Kinect could be turned off, but it wasn't clear whether they meant you could turn it off and still use the console, or just that yes, it can ...

People who don't indicate when changing lanes have been censored me loads lately.

Also, my neighbour who seems to think that every time he sneezes he's in the running for an oscar for most explosive sneeze.

Why has no one admitted that they read it on the bog so I feel less grotty about reading it on the bog?

Re: 50hz is horrible.

I agree Mootown, I've never noticed the speed up on PAL DVDS myself, but it is there, rather anoyingly. I love it. Think of all the slightly speeded up PAL releases you've watched over the years. Think of all the extra little ~5 minute chunks of time you've saved. Now think of the things you can do...

Re: The XBOX ONE / PS4 discussion thread

Didn't see this mentioned here yet, but the xbox one will no longer need to have Kinect connected in order to work.

Re: Hewson re-lived

Those original airbrushed artworks are a sight to behold!

Far more impressive than the original coloured pencil knockoffs by untalented 10-year-old that adorned my bedroom walls.

I got pretty hyped up for Ridge Racer 4 on the ps1 and Soul Calibur on Dreamcast.

Thankfully both were worth the anticipation.

Re: Any love for the isometric style game?

Regarding Power Drive - technically it's using a form of oblique projection. Fair enough someone calling it isometric, as isometric and oblique look quite similar depending on the angle of the parallel lines, which can vary according to the orientation of objects on the ground plane (eg. as the car ...

Re: Losing touch with modern gaming - anyone in this boat?

I've basically completely skipped the current gen. Mainly it was because I knew it wouldn't have enough time to properly enjoy a new console. Or rather that if I got one, I would get sucked into spending too much time on it. Most of my gaming nowadays is of the piecemeal grab it when I can get it mo...

Re: Questions about upgrading a PC

Haha, that's insane. If you like seeing cards being pushed, perhaps you should spend some time with my gt520 ;) Actually, one thing that bugs me is when there are seemingly arbitrary restrictions on max settings in games. Obviously no one's going to code in a bunch of features that only 1% of users ...
