Re: Duke Nukem 3D: Megaton Edition
It also had look spring on that kinda spoiled the game Nintendo took out the boobies and added gore Classic Nintendo. Replace the adult store with a shop that sells guns :? I always took that as being the porting team (British developers Eurocom) making an ironic joke about censorship in video game...

Re: Duke Nukem 3D: Megaton Edition
Very true it's not like there is a shortage of ports out there. Still for the saturn it is a cracking conversion I just think fan boys have tried to make out it was much better than it really was. Well I've never been much of a PC gamer so decent console ports are sort of a holy grail for me. I'll ...

Re: Worst consoles/computers of all time
Yeah, when I read the thread title I thought of Commodore C64gs and the Plus/4. I've gotta lotta affection for the Plus/4 as it was the family home computer for a little while back when I was 3 years old, and my memories of things like Manic Miner are linked to it. But I'd be lying if I said it wasn...

Re: Anti piracy methods
Lucasarts' code wheels were always good value. :D I always used to like the way Sierra used to handle copy protection as well: sometimes by integrating it into the gameplay itself, for example the manual for a Space Quest game might present itself as a fictional in-universe travel guide to the plane...

Re: Atari 2600 Graphicsl/Playability
2600 Pac-Man has got it's problems, but it's nowhere near as bad as people often make out.
It's not actually 'good', mind you. But it isn't an unplayable mess.

Re: Instances where games were remade/dual versions
I suppose on some level Super Mario Bros 2 and Doki Doki Panic are different enough in general gameplay to qualify as seperate games (SMB2 definitely "Mario's Up" the gameplay of Doki Doki, with Mario series staples like the super mushrooms and the starman being added, etc). They were both distribut...

Re: PSN is hacked again!
So has it always been. Some PC gamers like to pretend that the "true" power of their machines are being held back by lame ports of games that are built around being playable on "inferior" console technology. I heard similar complaints all the time back in the day from Amiga owners lamenting all the...

Re: Gaming's Greatest Icons
Roberta Williams - The woman behind Kings Quest, the first graphic adventure game. She basically created the genre. Definitely. While adventure games with static graphic screens illustrating the setting had already kinda sorta pre-dated King's Quest , what Ken and Roberta Williams brought to the ta...

Re: Games that make you feel epic
Anything in the Ghosts n' Goblins series.
One man, facing insurmountable odds... battling the very hordes of hell with only a suit of armour and a pair of y-fronts to protect him.
If that isn't epic, then I dunno what is.

Re: Which was the best "computer console" ?
It was the mid-80s Atari asthetic. There's a part of me that really wishes the Tramiels hadn't gone for that look, and instead kept the branding of it being black with bright red buttons. Maybe with a little woodgrain for tradition's sake. ;) But I will admit, the XEGS looks neat sitting next to an ...

Re: Atari 2600 Graphicsl/Playability
Double Dragon is one of those 2600 games where everytime I look at it I wonder if it's a just one of those crummy bootlegs -- except I know it was actually licenced, of course.

Re: Which was the best "computer console" ?
Yeah, under the hood the hardware was identical to the computers from the CPC+ range, right down to GX4000 cartridges being playable on a CPC+, and the CPC+ "system cartridge" being bootable on a GX4000 (not that you can do anything with it, given the lack of a keyboard and the inability to jack in ...

Re: Which was the best "computer console" ?
On a technical level it's the CD32, no question. But I voted for Atari's XEGS, for it's functionality. It shipped with a detachable keyboard, and had the full functionality of an Atari XL computer right out of the box, something you had to basically force a CD32 to do with outside pheripherals and s...

Re: Atari 2600 Graphicsl/Playability
Track down "Snoopy and the Red Baron" . I think it's one of the Atari 2600's forgotten gems, a game that uses the capabilities of the console to their very limits: fast paced action, some excellent graphical trickery, and superb use of sound all equals up to a cartridge that is one of the console's ...
