Re: GBA/GBA SP backlit screen mod

Modding an original GBA using the AGS-101 screen isn’t particularly difficult. It involves trimming the inside of the top shell and soldering a wire to the motherboard. Make sure you get the right adaptor cable for your motherboard revision. There are two motherboard versions: 32-pin and 40-pin. The...

It's actually more of a portable 3DO, technically speaking. But I know what you mean, it has a lot of games that are either from SNES or feautre SNES-like scrolling effects.
How so? Aside from the ARM CPU I don’t see that the GBA has much in common with the 3DO.

Re: Which Dreamcast?

Beware of version 2 NTSC (US) Dreamcasts. After a certain date Sega removed Mil-CD compatibility. Mil-CDs were karaoke discs. Supporting those gave the Dreamcast the helpful ability to boot standard CD-ROM discs. If you ever want to play backups or homebrew, don’t get a V2 Dreamcast unless you’re ce...

Re: 30 Years! Atari ST from Evesham Micros.

I got a PC from Evesham Micros that had a bad RAM chip. It took something like a month and 3 returns before they decided to fit a different SIMM. For one of the returns I configured the PC to boot straight into DOS Quake, which would crash after a few seconds of running the demo. They sent the PC ba...

Zillion - The Impossible Misssion/Metroid of the SMS
The Master System has a great version of Impossible Mission too.

I'd add these:

Alien 3
Marble Madness
Populous
Prince of Persia
Sagaia

Re: Which GBA?

Modded original GBA with a 101 backlight. I thought Deadpan Robot sold them in the UK, but I can't see any on their site now. Retro Modding sell them in the US. Or you could build your own from parts.

Not great if you're on a budget, but if you're looking for the best version...

Re: Dreamcast SD adapters

The SD card adaptor is good for home brew. It's a great substitute for the broadband adaptor if you're writing your own homebrew games and want to test on real hardware occasionally without needing to waste CD-Rs on test builds. Otherwise I wouldn't recommend it.

I don't see how it could be a touch screen without severely compromising the experience when the tablet is connected to a TV. Unless your TV is also a massive touch screen.

Re: Top 25 Game Boy Games

Yep Double Dragon on the Gameboy is superb, plays very well. I always preferred the sequel as it was one of the first GB games I ever bought. Took me forever to get past the boxer boss on level 1, but as soon as I did it once I could do it every time after that. Just fired the origianl back up and ...

Re: GCW Zero, has anybody herd of this thing?

There's a whole community around it here: http://boards.dingoonity.org/gcw-general/ It sounds like a great upgrade from a Dingoo A-320, but is plagued by the same problems that beset the Pandora handheld: poor communication from the amateur manufacturers and deadlines that sail by with little acknow...

Super Foul Egg for iPad

Finally got around to finishing my Super Foul Egg remake for the iPad:

https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/super-f ... 90558?mt=8

It's a free game with no ads, in-app purchases or other such scummy behaviour. Source code will be available soon, too.

Let me know what you think.

Earth Shaker Remakes Nixed

Unfortunately I've had to take down the remakes thanks to a nastygram from the ["Noddy Holder's Bash"-ed] company. I imagine the 360 version will disappear soon, so grab it while you can! And keep hold of the Spectrum ROM if you have it; the company will presumably want to travel back in time *22 ye...

Re: Earth Shaker - Great Spectrum 'Boulderdash Clone' on XBL

I started remaking EarthShaker for the DS about a year ago and finally got around to finishing it today: EarthShakerDS_20120526 It's a more or less straight remake of the original game, with a few minor enhancements such as more forgiving controls, a level select and a level editor. Unlike the 360 v...
