Re: From the Forum - Issue 199: Shareware

Commander Keen 4: Secret of the Oracle - the first time we had a truly great platformer on PCs - the original trilogy were good, but this was when id Software started touching greatness.

Altered Beast, all due to nostalgia - the local chip shop had a single game, and for a year or so it was this.

Re: screenshots

Actually, I was wondering this too. What do you guys use to get your N64 screenshots from - they always look incredible compared to the ones in my old N64 mags? an Ultra HDMI?

Re: Retro Gamer Review Marks

I still haven't forgiven Darran for the 100% rating for Super Mario Galaxy 2... still waiting for an apology for that one! :D All that horrible jumping about, deserves no more than about 82% in my books. Funnily enough I got SMG-2 based on Darren's review of it, but haven't gotten round to playing ...

For me it has to be R-Type, such a good version of it

Hardly bitching about it, just highlighting that for the target audience, few will find it an attractive freebie.
Thats the problem with these forums, people seem to think they are speaking for the entire mags readership, when in reality 99% of people don't think about it like you

Re: Cancel Subscription

I've been getting RG since issue 35 or thereabouts and haven't ever had a problem with captions not being readable - time to get your eyes checked out for macular degeneration

Re: Retro Gamer - Issue 193

I still love the magazine and have an active subscription, I've been going through really bad times at home, so have lost the passion for coming and discussing stuff on the forum. Most of my online discussion about gaming these days happens on Facebook, the immediacy of it is really good, although t...

Re: Iain Lee

Thats great - originally Iain Lee didn't sit that well with me for some reason, and then I saw him on that TV program "Come Dine With Me" and I realised I had the complete wrong impression of him, and loved his columns after that. Awesome to have him back!

Re: Paid for 'free gifts'

Yeah no surprise the sheep on here just love paying an extra quid for a CD they admit they don't even play. You literally can't make this stuff up. No opinion about the lower quality paper and how the mag is a shadow of its former self. Most people on here are subscribers I believe. You don't like ...

Re: Retro Gamer - Issue 192

I'm surprised the subscriber covers are still going given how much the negative feedback outweighs the positive on this forum. I much prefer (and love) the newsstand cover again this month: https://twitter.com/RetroGamer_Mag/status/1107617369604739072 (though the first replier to that Tweet prefers...

Re: Subs Department Epic Failure

I've got a personalized postcard informing me that my subscription is about to end. That is like a joke really. Before that there was a sealed mail with roughly the same information. I bet both of those took a couple of weeks to arrive and yet here I am still waiting for 188 and 191 to materialize....

Re: Retro Gamer - Issue 192

I hate the subscriber cover. They've been terrible for months and months now. They look a complete afterthought like yeah just throw any old crap on there. I'd rather have the paid cover. The Gods one last month was one of the alltime best covers in my opinion - I've been collecting since around is...

Nope. It's reputation is entirely deserved.
This might just be your part of the world, where I'm from, the Spectrum and Amstrad had similar reputations, neither was considered better than the other - and the C64 was thought of well above them.
