Re: What Films/TV Have you Watched Recently?

I just watched Thor Ragnarok and Justice League. Thor was great, probably the best film in the series. Lots of humour and great fun. I saw a film called Planet Hulk a few years back and Thor Ragnarok is basically a re-working of that. I didn't like Justice League that much at all. I think they reall...

Re: Technical Marvels!

I'd like to see more of these types of articles with maybe some explanation from the programmers. I think sometimes these kind of articles (not necessarily in Retro Gamer) miss the point and include games that use custom chips e.g Mario Bros 3, Starfox, Virtua Racing (MD) etc.The irony is that these...

Re: The first games you completed.

The game I am most proud of completing was Citadel on the BBC Micro. It seemed like it was really hard but once you knew what to do it was do-able. I only found 2 of the 3 crowns though. I found that quite difficult and didn't get close to finishing it, but I enjoyed it regardless. Yes it was a goo...

Re: Fighting Fantasy

I used to love these. Warlock of FTM, House of Hell ,Deathtrap Dungeon and the Sorcery series were easily the best books I did buy a more recent FF book about 10 years ago. I must have re-started it about 4 times but each time kept losing interest. Not sure if its because of my tastes changing or th...

Re: games where the original was best

Dynamite Dan (Spectrum) Sequel was ok but not as fun with all the random enemies. Crazy Taxi (Dreamcast) . Better than the sequels and it's even better than the remaster I have on my 360 (it's not the same game without KFC and Tower Records...) Vigilante 8 on Playstation with dual analogue stick co...

Re: Questions for David Jones

Slightly OT but just remembered that I used to follow the David Jones programming tutorial in Amiga Format. He went through all the routines he used in Menace. I learnt the technique of how to do Amiga hardware scrolling from that article. Before reading that it just seemed impossible to figure out....

Re: Issue 182. Toe Jam and Earl Lies in the Megadrive Companion booklet?

I think you are probably right in that they were probably from the previous Toe Jam & Earl piece in RG. I would guess that the booklet was put together using material from previous interviews and features in RG.

Issue 182. Toe Jam and Earl Lies in the Megadrive Companion booklet?

Well not really lies, just the developers having fun and making up answers to see if they will get printed. I'm sure this happened in a previous Making Of on this game. I also have a vague memory that I read an interview with the developers where they admitted to doing this but I can't say 100%. Wha...

Re: Retro Gamer issue 182

I actually enjoyed this last issue more than normal. I loved the technical details on the Megadrive and how it's display chip worked. It was nice to see a more detailed look at a console's hardware. Some of the other articles also seemed in more depth than normal. So really feeling optimistic about ...

Re: Questions for David Jones

With the Magic Knight games, did he regret letting Metroid beat him to the "main-chracater-is-really-female" reveal? What lessons did he learn from his 8 bit/16 bit games that helped him when designing Crackdown on Xbox 360? Seems unlikely but I vaguely remember reading somewhere that a version of L...
