Re: Mariothon - A journey from yesteryear to today!

Thanks for watching us and donating! The Mario Kart was great fun and is definitely something we'd do again.

Re: gaming is at its best at the moment

Personally I think that the nineties was a golden era for creativity, with lots of new genres being defined, companies sprouting out of garages and hardware limitations that acted as a natural guide for developer budgets, but the article linked to in the first post does make a good point about the a...

Re: Looking to build a database of retro game stores

There is Game World in Leicester (but they only go as retro as PS1)
The Playtime stores in Nottingham, Sheffield and Doncaster usually have a few old items and often have staff capable of answering complicated questions.

Those are the only retro/independant stores I know of.

Re: Germany lifts Doom sales ban after 17 years

Fair enough, although I'd argue that the SNES is not exactly the best interface to enjoy that game with.

Germany lifts Doom sales ban after 17 years

I thought this article might amuse some of you here.

So, how many of you played this as a kid/teen? I believe I was 11 years old when I first played it. It remains one of my favoured pure shooters even to this day.

Re: Original Donkey Kong

I played it last winter on an old Colecovision and managed to get somewhere above 50k. Can't remember the exact score though. I think the Colecovision version is missing one of the floors, but my memory could be wrong.

I can see it now; a massive list of tickboxes with the soundbyte "Noooooo!" played everytime you untick one of Lucas' changes. Now that I would pay for.

Re: Do graphical advances still impress you?

Pixiu, I agree that we haven't reached the physical limits of what is possible in terms of realistic rendering of a 3d environment, but I do think the ceiling has been hit in budget terms. Half of the staff for FFXIII was the graphics department and frankly they suffered for that with the critics. G...

Re: More changes to the original Star Wars Trilogy...

But why can't I get the films I watched when I was a kid on blu ray? I've got other films I watched as a kid on blu ray. Exactly. If old boy Lucas let me have a copy of the originals or cinema release special edition on a non-obsolete format I'd happily sit quiet about his crazy changes. Heck, if h...

Re: What Snes game is this?!

I found a supposedly exhaustive list of RPGs for the SNES. Maybe its one of these? 7th Saga; Arcana; Breath of Fire 1; Breath of Fire 2; Chrono Trigger; Dragon View; Drakkhen; Dungeon Master; Earthbound (Mother 2); Estopolis 1 (Lufia & the Fortress of Doom); Estopolis 2 (Lufia 2: Rise of the Sinistr...

Re: What Snes game is this?!

I know the snes had an attachment to download games during satellite broadcasts and was available in Japan only, is that what you're referring to when you said wildcard? It might help narrow the search.

I too thought of FF6 from your description :P

Re: More changes to the original Star Wars Trilogy...

I agree that the Special Editions were really good, but my problem with it is that there were further tweaks between the vhs release and the dvd release. Since I bought the dvds to replace my vhs when I went to college (and no longer had the ability to watch vhs), I was really upset about what was e...

Re: Introduce yourself

Hello there, I'm Kevin, the username Marty is just a nickname that stuck at college and now I use online, I'm 28 and I grew up on videogames. For me, retrogames are the late 80's and all of the 90's but I did play a lot on my grandfather's old Colecovision (Venture, Ladybug, Popeye, Qubert, Donkey K...

Re: More changes to the original Star Wars Trilogy...

That clip was just awful. These voiceovers just spoil the moments. I used to love the Bespin scenes with Boba Fett, but since they edited out the orginal actors voice and replaced it with the inferior voice acting of Temuera Morrison I can't watch that scene without being jarred. I'm tempted to buy ...
