Re: MiSTer

You raise same interesting points, English Invader. I won't claim to know the technical aspects of the nature of FPGA systems, but I will talk about my experience with them. I come from a background of owning a Speccy in the 80's, Amiga, MD, SNES PS1, N64 & Saturn consoles in the 90's and still have...

Re: Thinking about getting an snes, or perhaps an nes?

I'm going to throw a couple of different options into the ring here, and link to another post I made in the Mega SG thread some months back. Real hardware & carts have, in my opinion, become way too expensive to build up a small collection of decent titles these days. I was done collecting in the ea...

Re: Mega SG

You're more than welcome! Retro stores???!!! I take it you're not in London, the last dedicated retro store I knew of in London closed down many years ago. If you were anywhere near London I'd offer you the chance to look at the MiSTer first hand and compare it to the Mega SG. Incidentally, there ha...

Re: Mega SG

Hi Pacific, You're welcome! As JamesC says don't write off a CRT set. In my opinion there is nothing that looks better than a retro console being used on a well calibrated CRT set. If you wanted to go one step further then a pin sharp calibrated PVM is the pinnacle of 240p retro goodness, whether it...

Re: Mega SG

I'm going to echo some of the sentiments offered by JamesC. To clarify, I own original Mk1 Megadrive hardware (my original Pal launch model modded to 60hz), a Mega SG, and a MiSTer DE10-Nano (more on that later). The Mega SG is a fantastic machine. But as you mention it does come at a premium price,...

Re: Expensive NES Clones

I haven't got any experience of the AVS or Retron HD, my experience lays with the Analogue NT Mini and the DE10-Nano "Project Mister". I was lucky enough to get an order in before Analogue discontinued the NT Mini. I was attracted to the NT Mini as an easy way to get my Nes games on a HD TV at 1080p...

Re: Retro consoles on a 4ktv

Further to my earlier post about the MiSTer Project, there's been a decent article about it published on Racketboy a few days ago that I think sums up everything quite well .... worth a read I think! It's a decent alternative to the Analogue systems and the Rapsberry Pi. http://www.racketboy.com/ret...

Re: Retro consoles on a 4ktv

As Analogue's FPGA based Super NT and Mega SG have been mentioned I thought I'd throw in another FPGA system that is starting to gain a bit of traction. It's fully open source & does rely on "the community", which is quite small at the moment. Unlike Analogue's systems it doesn't use real carts. But...

Re: Most and least durable controllers

Most durable joystick - Megadrive Arcade Power Stick (3 button version).

This stick is still going strong, and has survived being plugged into an Amiga on countless occasions for "Waggle-O-Mania". Any stick that can survive this game is built to last!

Re: mario maker level share thread

Here's my first attempt at creating a level. It uses NES Mario 1 level 1-1 as a base. There's not too much going on. One thing I've noticed so far with the creations I've played so far is how "jam-packed" the levels are with enemies. Or levels that require pixel perfect jumping skills to clear (I wa...

Re: Original Xbox Component Cable?

I think what you need is one of these. It's the official Microsoft Component "Block", as I call it. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/XBOX-HIGH-DEFINITION-AV-PACK-/201417813270?hash=item2ee56fed16 This adapter, to the best of my knowledge, was never available here in the UK as 720p or 1080i was never an opt...

Re: Advice pls - Wii games for children?

Thanks for all your replies, so much appreciated! As a Wii owner myself with a small collection of games (although I'm more into the Zelda, Last Story, Mad World Pandora's Tower, Xenoblade .... etc) I'm aware of just how much shovelware is out there. It's definitely quality over quantity that I'll b...

Advice pls - Wii games for children?

Hi folks, Apologies if this has been asked before. If it has please direct me to the relevant thread. My brother was recently given a Wii which he's going to give to his children. The machine doesn't have any games .... at least, none that are child friendly. Although I know more of the "adult orien...
