Re: Desert Island games

The inspiration for Desert Island Games turns 70 today. I don't see it in the current issue (98)'s "In the chair with....," though.

Re: Zelda 1 NES original quest lost once completed?

No, not with the same save file and all the items/hearts/etc. you have collected. Going back to the "same" world only with the final boss defeated wasn't something console game makers thought much of back then.

Re: Master System RPG’s

The only MS RPG I've ever played is Phantasy Star remade on my GBA. Good game at first, but you need to map every single dungeon carefully from the middle of the game onward But that is why IT IS BRILLIANT. You shall work for your progress. Work hard. I'm all for working for progress! :) However, w...

Re: Bittersweet Endings *SPOLIER ALERT*

Final Fantasy II. The GBA re-release had a post-story side quest to try to make the ending a little bit happier. I'm not sure if other re-releases did the same thing as I haven't played them. That was back when Square made every odd FF games more play-based and the even FF games more story-based. Th...

Good game at first, but you need to map every single dungeon carefully from the middle of the game onward because of the first-person perspective and the unfortunate fact that every inch of the dungeon's corridor look identical. :( ...

Re: Is PS2 "Retro"?

My local GameStops, except for 1 (out of 5 or so) don't even sell new and used PS2 games anymore. So now I need to got to my local retro shop if I'm looking for a specific PS2 game. If a system isn't being sold in regular stores, I would call it retro, especially one that came out more than 10 years...

Re: Worst ever Arcade conversion

Pac-Man for the Atari VCS. It's hard to forgive the original's flawed take when the later Ms. Pac-Man conversion showed the VCS was more than capable of emulating the original arcade gameplay and graphics.

Re: New Vs Old Gran Turismo Vs Gran Turismo 5

Old thread, sorry, but I have to say GT5 is the better game, especially since it is supposed to be the "Real Driving Simulator" and it's hard to sim racing with old-gen graphics and no steering wheel support. GT1 was great for its time but successive games, while not adding many new things, improved...

Re: LJN feature in mag? Worst games ever made

I'm late to the party here, but I don't think the OP played enough LJN games for the NES. LJN games I've enjoyed included Who Framed Roger Rabbit, T & C Surf Designs, MLB, and several WWF games. I didn't enjoy Back to the Future and Friday the 13th as much but they were my cousin's so I didn't spend...

Re: US readers -- when do you see the mag in your stores?

Matt, I live near Boston too. Borders (those that are still in business anyway) and Barnes & Noble usually carry them, and they usually come 2-3 weeks after the same issue arrives to U.S. subscribers. If you trust the magazine's continuing quality as I do, then you would be better off subscribing to...

Re: Have Any US Subscribers Received Issue 95 Yet?

I got issues 95 and 96 without a problem. I've had 1 or 2 issues damaged in the mail in the past but I think it is more due to the carelessness of my postal carrier than anything else.

Re: Point blank/Time crisis

Yes you can, but you'll need to buy a specific gun with sensors. Search http://www.playasia.com for the 'Top Gun II lightgun'. Works brilliantly on most HDTVs - but it's only compatible with the PS2, XBOX and PC. Haven't found one that works with the PS1 yet unfortunately, so no Time Crisis 1 or Po...

Re: Galaga Legions DX (XBLA/PSN)

The demo reeled me in and I just bought it for my PS3. Nothing like Galaga except for the non-default graphics, but the gameplay is good fun. I always love shooters with dual joystick controls. It seems impossible to lose all of your ships in Normal mode (with the slowdowns and all) unless you are r...

Re: Flashback QFI - Best Version?

The SNES and Genesis manuals had a short black-and-white comic, produced by Marvel Comics no less, explaining Conrad's situation before his escape bike got shot down by the bad guys in the opening cinematic. I've only played the SNES version but the censorship were minimal, such as covering up alcoh...

Re: "Good" Rugby games

As a rugby player in the States, the only rugby union games I've been able to play were Rugby 06 and 08 for the PS2. A friend of mine prefers "Rugby" (05 I guess) over 06 and we still go at it in 08 because EA haven't made a new rugby game since. I would recommend 08 if you have a PS2 as you can mak...
