Re: The first games you completed.

Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade - The Action Game on the Amiga. Back in the day I hardly ever completed any games, the one that I really, really tried to beat was Zool - I spent a whole summer playing it every day and despite getting further than pretty much anyone else I've ever spoken to (the p...

Re: In case anyone thought that Atari console was actually going to happen...

We've all seen dodgy Kickstarters before, but to see a company with the pedigree of Atari doing it is really shocking. At least with the Coleco Chameleon, Coleco weren't actually making the thing - just licencing their name to the actual manufacturers. It's a shame because I really believed that it ...

Re: Ebay is flooded with repros. Can anything be done?

I have no problem with repros. They make it possible to buy games like Conker's Bad Fur Day or Turtles in Time without needing to raid my pension fund. However, there are two caveats: firstly, the game must work. Particularly with battery-backed games, many of the repros don't offer the functionalit...

Re: What games/consoles have you bought this week??

Just had my copy of Metroid for the NES arrive in the post. I'd given up hope of finding a copy for a reasonable price when I ran across an eBay auction for a rather battered looking cart which the seller was listing as non-working since the last buyer had returned it as not working. I could see tha...

Re: Discuss: Spectrum vs Amstrad Gaming

I only knew three other kids with computers when I was at school; one had a C64, one a BBC and one a ZX81. I had an Electron. Nobody, to my knowledge, had a Spectrum or an Amstrad. Maybe we just didn't talk about it as much then. A few years later when I moved up to secondary school the consoles and...

Re: Mini Sega Megadrive anyone?!

If this is an actual premium Sega product like the Nintendo minis, great. If it's just more cheap licenced crap, no.

TBH Megadrive games are now so freely available on pretty much any format you can name that I don't see the point.

Re: Atari VCS

250 bucks? I'll pass on this one, if thats the case. It depends on how they pitch it. If it's just a fancy way to play old 2600 games the price is crazy, you could buy a Flashback for far less. If on the other hand it's a proper console with its own library of games and the 2600 stuff is just a bon...

Re: Atari VCS

I've just realised I should have said 1993 above, as 1996 was the year the Jag was discontinued, not launched.

I guess after the Coleco Chameleon people are wary but this seems on the face of it to be a more professional proposition.

Atari VCS

https://www.techadvisor.co.uk/new-product/game/atari-vcs-ataribox-3661505/ I'm a bit surprised nobody's posted about this, especially Laird, as the first proper new Atari console (ignoring the Atari-licenced Flashback) since 1996 should be big news. The machine formerly known as the Ataribox has be...

Re: If not the "Big 3" 8-bits then who?

I was only 4 when my dad decided we needed a home computer, so I didn't get much say in what we got (which ended up being an Acorn Electron). Fortunately there were plenty of games for it that I enjoyed so it never bothered me, especially as at that age I didn't really follow the scene and had no id...

Re: Movies that never got games

Famously the Dark Knight video game was canned, making it the first Batman movie since the first one in 1966 not to receive a video game translation. Though Arkham Asylum came out around this time so any movie tie-in would probably have struggled anyway. None of the Batman movies since then have had...

Re: The return of mascot games

To my mind 'mascot' games are one-platform ponies, when the leading console manufacturers produced their own games solely for their own machines, or paid other companies to make their games exclusives to just their system. As soon as Sonic being released on other platforms he ceased to be a mascot....

Re: The return of mascot games

As an Amiga owner back in the day I'd like to see a new Zool game. A proper 2D one, not a 3D one like the one that was almost made once before (before the devs hastily reworked it into the wretched Ninjabread Man). Okay, the games weren't actually as good as all that (the level design of the first g...

Re: The Most Difficult Games Of All Time

I am so glad I passed up on Driver all those years ago. You missed out. The garage difficulty level is overhyped imo, I did it on about my second go and have since repeated it without much hassle having heard these tales. I'm not even that great at games, I'm pretty poor-average. It was d...

Re: The Most Difficult Games Of All Time

Don't forget TMNT on the NES. That blooming swimming level. Have completed the game a few times but think I'm too old to do it again now. Weirdly it was the Amiga version I had as a kid and I remember getting past the swimming section without too much difficulty. I no longer have the Amiga bu...
